The Dangers of Repeated Sun Exposure

So, we all love to be out in the sun, right? Basking in the lovely warm rays of the almighty life-giver? Well, what if I told you that getting too much sun, to the point where you’re sunburnt is pretty much about the worst thing you could do to your skin. What’s that? You already knew that too much sunlight is bad? Hmm. Well, I guess I’ll have to get down into the specifics then, I mean I’ve got to give you something right?

But first, let me tell you that you don’t need to be outdoors to be sunburned. No, you can be sunburned from the safety of your own home. Gadzooks I hear you say, how’s that even possible. Well, it’s pretty much only possible if you sit right up against the window as the sun is shining through it. But it’s still possible for the sun to hit your body through the glass and sully your skin with its harmful UV rays. This is where outdoor blinds come in. Outdoor blinds are a smart and stylish addition to your home or office that will allow you to block out the sun whenever it becomes too intense for you. So, let’s get into the dangers of sun exposure. For one, it can result in short-term skin damage. Sunburn can actually develop in less than 1 minute of direct sun exposure. Sunburn is due to UV rays messing up your skin and it can cause pain, red skin, and blistering, which is absolutely not fun at all. Then we move on to the really heavy stuff. Long-term skin damage. This is the result of, you guessed it, repeated exposure to the sun over a long period of time. The nasty UV rays that we hate so very much actually cause wrinkles, saggy skin and dryness. You might begin to develop age spots and you will find that your skin begins to bruise very easily. Worst comes to worst, it can actually result in skin cancer, and most commonly melanoma.

If you’re exposing yourself to the sun without a break over several hours, you may begin to suffer from heatstroke. This is a pretty crazy affair as it begins with fainting, exhaustion, and heat cramps. Sure, that’s pretty bad, but the really bad part is that if it progresses, it can actually do serious damage to the brain. And it’s not only the adults that face this, sometimes, high school athletes also fall due to heatstroke as they do very difficult workouts while withstanding very high temperatures.

This when combined with dehydration is basically a double whammy that’s going to put anyone out of commission ultra-quick. Symptoms of heatstroke are, dizziness, a headache, nausea, cramps, high heartbeat, and confusion. All this is very scary stuff but remember it can always be prevented. When outside make sure to always stay hydrated, make sure to put on plenty of sunscreens, always wear a wide-brimmed hat, and when inside, make sure your outdoor blinds are down.
